The kids had a great time at the 3rd season youth turkey hunt at Torstenson Youth Conservation Education Center near Pecatonica, IL. Every year 5 kids per season are invited to hunt at TYCEC. NWTF's Northern Illinois Thundering Toms Chapter held a JAKES Day June 27th at
Tortenson Youth Conservation Education Center in Pecatonica, IL
Youth participated in fishing, shooting, archery and the IDNR Conservation Trailer.
There was a demonstration at lunchtime from Hoo Haven. The 85-100 Jakes
memberships will be paid for with part of a grant received from Cabela's.
Jo Davies Longbeards host 17th Annual JAKES Day at Marsden Farm near Galena
An energetic group including 70 youth and 50 adults enjoyed an excellent day of nature and outdoor activities at the 17th Annual JAKES Day, August 8, 2015. JAKES Day, which is hosted by the Jo Daviess County Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), was held at the Kyle and Karen Marsden farm in rural Galena. Along with the traditional activities including the archery and gun safety lectures, the shotgun still target shoot, BB gun shoot and archery 3D shoot, participants built wooden tool boxes, watched a camouflage and calling demonstration presented by Randy Christensen of Cabela’s, and enjoyed the numerous animals displayed by Friendly Lakeside Critters, Apple River IL.
Youth participants received a JAKES Day T-shirt, were provided lunch and were entered into sporting goods raffles. Raffle winners included Luke Duggan (compound bow), Sam Peters (compound bow), Ahana Duggan (pellet gun), and Aiden James (BB gun). Twenty others won rod and reels donated by Cabela's.

JAKES, which stands for Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, and Sportsmanship, is the youth program of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF).
